We introduce ourselves as a Non-Commercial Institute situated in Bhawanipore at the heart of the City of Joy, Kolkata- and engaged in Education for Mentally Challenged Persons to an end in view to prepare them to be independent, Self- living under the able guidance of the specially trained Teachers, Trainers, Psychologists yoga & Physical instructors.

About Us

In early 90's the 2 young ladies from Kolkata, India attended a Seminar on "Behaviour Modification of a Person with Mental Retardation" organised by a NGO - Social Organisation. It was a day long programme, attended by dignitaries, special educators, psychologists etc. Who made the event a grand success. At the same time, this has highly impressed both the young ladies, and ultimately it inspired them to work in the field.

Soon they got in touch with the National Institute of Mental Handicapped NIMH, India, and joined a special course on the subject. On completion of the course, the ladies together with one of their friends decided to open a School for Mentally Challenged Persons in the City of Kolkata, India.

On a fine morning of 14th August 1992, the dream came true and SOUTH CALCUTTA ANANDA NIKETAN HOME was founded with 2 Mentally backward persons under 2 Special Educators at the end of the year we got 25 students of either sex and of different ages to our institute.

Our Services

1. Assessment (Early intervention/ IQ Test etc.).

2. Special Education as per their ability.

3. Self-help Training (Dress-wear/ Shoe lacing, Combing, Brushing etc.).

4. Vocational Training.

5. Research Awareness Programme (Seminars/ Workshop on subjects)

6. Exhibitions: Our students make home made products.

7. Outdoor Activities: Games, Sports, Picnic, etc.

8. Clinical Activities (Health Check-up/ Physiotherapy, Yoga Therapy etc.

9. Transport Facility Available: We render both ways regular Transport to all our students from their respective home to schools & back residing in South Calcutta.

10. Parental Training to the M.R.Students: We also arrange time to time training to the parents of the M.R.Students.

Admission Process

Unlike normal academic School, admission to our School is all time open throughout the year. Our Psychologist together with a team of professional experts, and a special Educator first assesses the IQ level of the student, other merits, and his/her demands by following a different program on stages at the time of admission.

PRESENT SCENARIO

Since our inception, we always prefer admitting these specially able persons who belong to low income group, the family of those who can't even afford to pay monthly Tuition Fees and majority of them are marked as Free students. This has obviously minimised our only source of income and thus we have to depend on Donation from a few generous mankind to counter our fixed monthly recurring expenses to run the school.

WHAT WE NEED?

1. Transportation:

Since we are committed to render Transportation to all the students for their both ways journey from their home to school and back, we now urgently require a PICK-UP VAN to an estimated cost of INR /₹ 16.0L only for this purpose.

2. School Building:

In order to accommodate 100/150 M.R. Students Under the same roof, we urgently need a school building of 2000 Sq.ft area approx. where we can provide more class-rooms, a hall for seminars/workshops, and a widen covered space to run a vocational training unit: an open space for physical training, etc to an estimated purchase cost of INR /₹ 1.5 Cr. Only in and around South Kolkata.

APPEAL

In continuation to the genuinity of both the aspects 'present scenario' and 'what we need to do', we appeal to all the Sectors of the Society to come forward and to extend their support to enable us to reach the goal to a noble cause.
